Travel Info Between eastside and westside Toronto, which has a better environment for raising a family? Travel Tips East side is good, it depends which area u will choose i will recmond some thing around East to west Don Mills & LAwrence to Keendy & Lawrence and north to south Finch to Victoria park Others Neither.... the north side has better homes, schools, neighbourhoods, lower crime rates and the people tend to be better educated and have a higher standard of living!!! ;) I've lived North, South, East, West, and downtown Toronto. My opinion on a good "family" neighbourhood is the relationship with your neighbours and if kids are safe playing with the other kids on the street or in the park down the road, or walking to school or to the store on their own. In the East, we have Scarborough, and East York, and the Beaches. Beaches - who is buying those postage stamp properties for extreme amounts of money I will never understand. Futher north from there is Scarborough (from Danforth north) and while it is not all that bad and quite a large area, my personal opinion is that it is still a young community that hasn't found a niche yet. What I mean is that I haven't found a personality in any of the areas I've lived, or friends have lived. They were ok areas, but nothing special or cherished. People live inside their homes, not in their yards, or in their community - make sense? Getting to know your neighbours is not high on anyones agenda. East York is a nice area, but again, small properties and could be too close to downtown for comfort. The North is ok too, again a large area, larger properties and a much older and established. I'm working in this area again, and rediscovering the area. There are some comfortable areas, however, they are quite expensive. This one is a toss up. In my maturity, I have found the West end and settled here. I honestly think that the West end has a little more comfort and is more attractive to young families. I find many of my friends are moving this way, now that they have kids of their own. The homes are a little more spread out, the neighbourhoods are still young (post war) but seem more established for some reason. I've met many people who grew up in the West end and still live here, or moved back when they had families. I don't find that in other areas. Just my opinion. :o) Try the suburbs like Mississauga and Brampton. North York is good. Less crime. Both sides has its good and bad areas. But I think the West side has better areas from the point of crime and safety. We spoke to Toronto police friends and asked them the same question once. They advised us to buy a house in the west end - in the Peel areas of Brampton and Mississauga, because they are much safer than Scarborough. The police force there seems to do a better job. |
