TTC ( Toronto ) transfer question?

Travel Info
I'm planning to take a bus eastbound on Finch W to the subway. Can I use a transfer to get off on Finch before the subway, pick up something, then get back on the same route towards the station 15 minutes later?

I know Toronto used to be pretty strict about their transfers, but I don't know the current situation. I know in Vancouver you can use your transfer any direction from any stop as long as it's within the time period, but I don't know about T.O.

Thanks.

Travel Tips
I have good news and bad news for you.

The good news is that the TTC is currently involved in a pilot programme which would let you do exactly what you want to do - take a time-based transfer so that you can jump off for 15-30 minutes, do some shopping, and get back on without paying an additional fare.

The bad news is that this programme is currently only available on the St Clair 512 route.

It depends when you're planning on taking the Finch W 36 then; if you're dong it sometime this week, then no, you'll have to pay a second fare. But if you come back to Toronto in a few years time, you'll probably be able to do it for the cost of just one ticket.

Let's hope the commission actually makes this a reality across the system! Source(s): http://www.toronto.ca/ttc/pdf/time_based... and a lifetime of transit geekery.

Other Travel Tips
I don't think so. If you were transferring to a different bus route, then yes. But you will probably get stopped by the bus driver and made to pay another fare.
No you can't. You can only use a transfer if for example you are travelling eastbound and you get off at an intersection where you want to travel north. Same thing if you were travelling, say westbound and you get off at an intersection to go southbound. Think of a square and you'll get the idea. You generally have to use the transfer within 15 minutes of getting off the bus.
Grand River Transit in Waterloo County has the policy you mentioned above. However, in Toronto you have to use your transfer to change routes. I did that myself at Eglinton & Royal York Streets. I took a transfer from one route, ran into the Garden Centre and then took the other bus to the subway station.
No, you'll be getting back on the same bus route...
no, only if you change to a different route
