This will keep more people out of their cars. It will also make it more appealing to live in the city. I think that they should build taller buildings, so people don't go out, they go up. And people should get used to share their "areas" (such as a backyard and patio or personal swimming pool) with other people, so less are built. Also people should be encouraged to buy hybrid cars and not drive as much (as to the corner store for milk). Use public transport (which should be made energy efficient) and bike or rollerblade to places. Cars aren't everything. People need to get over the fact that more things and the more space they have will make them happy, in truth if you have no one to share that object or space with, then how happy will you be? That's why people need to learn to share everything and accept the fact that less is more. Extend the subway whether people like it or not. In the end once it's up and running, they will love it. (The worst smog readings were registered in the GTA believe it or not)! Road pricing. Basically erect toll gates on highways into GTA. If a car is not from the GTA, they get charged $10 for entry - daily. $20 if the vehicle only has 1 person. All cars registered in Toronto (not outlying areas) would get a radio transceiver stuck onto their engine. They can come and go as they please - with no charge. Also, they should institute a rule that all land within 1 km of a subway station should be super high density i.e. nothing less than 40 stories can be built along the subway corridor. That alone would take off 100,000 cars off toronto roads in no time at all. |
