Do you need a passport to go to Toronto, Canada?

I'm in the USA and wanted to travel to Canada and wondered if you needed a passport to get across the border? I will be DRIVING there -- I dont know if that makes a difference

You do not need anything to get to Canada if you are a US citizen, just a normal ID card.Not to get in but to get back into the states you do.

As of January 2007 everyone needs a passport to cross the US/Canada border. Driving or flying, same rules apply. You may want to start the passport application process, because it is taking a LONG time for the govn't to process them.
You need a passport to get back in the US for sure. If you are a US citizen you need ID otherwise you need a passport form your country.
At this point I don't believe a passport is required to travel from the U.S.A. to Canada but as always if you do have one it is smart to carry it with you.
