What should I pack for a trip to Trinidad and Tobago? |
Travel Info I'm going to Trinidad and Tobago this July, and I'd like to know what to pack. I know it is often in the 80's there and it will be the rainy season, so cool clothes and rain gear are a must. I've read that camoflage can't be worn there and that you can't wear shorts in public. Is that true? What should I pack to make sure I cover all the bases? Travel Tips Don't quite know where you're getting your information from but its a bit off. You could do tanks, tshirts, sundresses, sandals. Pack whatever you would for a trip to a warm and sunny destination. Yes, there will be lots of sun. Don't know where you read that stuff about the shorts but they are a MUST and leave the rain gear at home. A handy umbrella is about all you'll need and not even that if you're willing to "shelter" as we say, for a little while. Any store front will do :-) . We don't take the rain too seriously, we even go to the beach in the rain. The most important things to take to T & T are not things you can pack though. Take an open mind, a willingness to embrace new things, an appreciation for natural beauty and a respect for the culture and you'll be just fine. We're a great people in a great country!! I hope you have a wonderful time! Others wow, that answer above me pretty much says it all. but yes, the camo part is true, you can't wear it here. but of course, shorts et al are fine and a must! also pack good jeans, a good pair of black or dress pants and a few "party" tops to go to the clubs in. women here dress to kill when they go out to the clubs and you don't want to stick out like a sore thumb! you can get sunblock, makeup and hair products at any good drugstore or mall here too. if you are on prescription meds, walk with enough to last your trip as the pharmacies can be a little finicky here about overseas scrips. most importantly, use your common sense here as you would anywhere else....don't walk about alone, esp. at night. don't walk around with a lot of cash or jewelry. trinis can spot a tourist a mile away so be as inconspicuous as you can with the bling and all that. hopefully you've got friends here to take you around, you get a thorough trip of the place that way! that's about it! have a great time and be safe! enjoy our island :) I just wanted to say that Gibbsy Girl's answer is one of the most excellant answers I've seen in a while - Enjoy your trip! |
