What do you think about this?

Travel Info
In America, films are made out of movies. One of my favorites is 'A Raisin in the Sun'. Have we ever had films made out of our novels like 'A Brighter Sun', and 'The Schoolmaster'? Won't some of our novels make good movies? What do you think?

Travel Tips
The truth is... many of our local works have been turned into mini movies... I saw a Brighter Sun recently on NCC Channel 4.
The thing is... it wont be a full blown two-hour movie like they have in the US cause the film industry in Trinidad is only now being given attention.
Playwrights don't have the kind of capital it takes to make these mega movies and get a box office thriller.
Only recently was the film company of TT launched... one in which they hope will help to diversify the country's economy...
Carla Foderingham who used to read news on TV 6 is the boss there
They say it have plenty to do with the fact that they trying to stop making oil and gas the base of the economy so they taking the oil and gas money to give people to make movies.
Hoepfully at that time we'll see the box office thrillers allyuh talking bout... till then.. we have to put up with the condensed versions of whatever these people down here could afford.
Others
There are tons of films made from books, too many to mention
I presume you mean Trinidadian and Tobagan novels, and yes I think they would make as good films as anything out of Hollywood. But I don't understand "films are made out of movies" since the two words mean the same.

Look out for the Harry Belafonte film "Island in the Sun" made in the late fifties - I think that's an adaptation of a local novel
If Spiderman could spawn 3 top selling movies, I say we could put Anansi on de screen man!! Ent??
I've gotta chime in and agree with Amsterdam. Island in the Sun is an interesting movie. At the time it was made it was "shocking" , although it seems pretty tame now. The island portrayed in the movie was fictional.

Raisin in the Sun was an execellent short novel and also a good movie.

I would, personally, be interested in movies/novels set in the caribbean, not just Trini.
I agree with you. I recently saw an film adaption of " A House for Mr. Biswas." I was very excited because it was filmed in Trinidad, but disgusted because the lead characters were from India and not from Trinidad...steups.

I think Crick Crack Monkey by Merle Hodge and The Dragon Can't Dance by Earl Lovelace would also make nice films. Leh we get together and produce it nah! Hollywood...we cominggggggggggg!
There are some good adaptations out there....check out the Mystic Masseur (Naipaul) or the Hummingbird Tree (McDonald). MM was fraught with the use of Indian (from India) actors but they did make use of some local talent...Michael Cherrie, Maureen Thompson, Grace Maharaj, and the greatest "Umbala".

Just to correct a previous comment...I don't believe that A House for Mr. Biswas has made it to the big or small screen. I checked on IMDB...you get me excited for nuttin'! :)

Dragon Can't Dance - great suggestion...I think Green Days by the River would do well.
