If you could change one thing about T&T, what would you change?

For me its the cost of land and building materials.

Lawd knows that i have to live in meh mother's house all the days of meh life cause i cant afford to move out or to buy land or a house on my salary. Imagine rent is US$1500 (yes and i working for TT$) and the cost of a decent two bedroom flat house (behind God's back) is $450,000 and you not getting a lot of land with that, and if you decide to buy that house in the town you could pay as much as $800,000.

And a lot of land can cost as much as $500,000 talking bout $100 psf. you ent see dese people crazy.

And to top it off, Mr. Rowley say that they building low income housing for citizens, but they have it on a lottery system, if you lucky and your name pick then you go get a house. So it have people with applications in there for 10 years and not getting any house and people who put in application two months ago, getting house. If you have an application inside, dont reapply, it wont be accepted

The education system. It needs an overhaul, I think it's 95% the cause of the problems with crime today. We are reaping the rewards of the shift (shift, not another word (= ) system today. They keep building a ton of schools instead of fixing the existing ones. There is very little discipline in public education.

The Name..:)
So true about the housing issue, it is ridiculous, and ex-pats buying up everything.

But I'd change our lackadasical response to problems, the smelter, flooding, deforestation, disaster preparedness! It's not that we don't know better, or we lack the intelligence to know what the solution is, we simply fail to act.
The complacency of Trinidadians or and I cant forget the PNM
is lady toluke or whatever her name is for real? gyal hold yuh tail..come to get my so and so blood pressure raise this early morning - do some research and see where the name come from before you open yuh aloo pie hole..

anyway my people, i digress, what would i change - i think it's our people's tendancy to accept something without giving much of a fight - comes back to being complacent and not fighting for what you want. A simple thing like customer service in banks, gov't offices etc - some of the employees need to be trained in how to deal with members of the public, who sometimes are afraid they get buff if they ask too much question.
Ask away, fight for your rights trinis, you have them. Americans have been taught that the customer is always right, we should have the same things ingrained in us too..
Firstly, props to meh gyul Izzy B fuh putting this FAS interloper Lady Toluke in she place!

Secondly, I agree with rastabeenz. The education system needs a serious overhaul. Until very recently, if you did not get a full certificate of education, i.e., five or more O' Level passes at CXC and/or you could not afford to migrate abroad, your chances for success in Trinidad and Tobago were slim to none. Going to UWI was a pipe dream.

They want 5 CXC passes to work in Kentucky! What reasonable options did people have? Now, that tertiary education is free emphasis should be placed on getting these schools where they need to be both physically and academically.
Oh goh Izzy B, behave nuh!! Why yuh getting on so?? Obviously Lady Toluke is just an ignorant cobo who doh know no better and CLEARLY bump she head an land in the wrong category. Because surely, if she had a clue bout de busing she was asking for, she would ah know better than to say that a$$holeness she say, here of all places.

Ok, what was the question again???

The thing I would like to see change most isn't specific to Trinidad but I'd really like to see it happen there. I'd like to see all the political game playing stop and have some serious, dedicated, honest, genuinely concerned leaders come in and restore Trinidad to what it once was. I think if that were to happen, the other issues you all addressed, like housing and the school system, not to mention crime, would take a turn for the better.
