I have serious respect for Denise Plummer yes! Ok she eh no super lyricist or melodic master but dat woman have heart oui. I was in Skinners Park years ago when she first come on de scene and she make Soca Monarch Semi Finals. She wasn't singing anything noteworthy an allyuh know we stop when we ready eh. Dem people pelt that woman with solo bottle, paper from dey doubles an roti, paper plate, napkin and toilet paper. If yuh see ducking she had to do but dat woman pick up a roll ah toilet paper, roll off some, wrap it roun she neck, make a scarf wit it and continue she song oui. Dey boo she, she add de word boo tuh she lyrics. Current went, she still busy performing all though it eh have no music an we cyah hear a word she saying. She just refuse to give up. She REAL fight fuh people tuh take she serious. Yuh have to respect dat.

And I agree "Nah Leaving" is a classic!!

Anyway... she is de firs white person to make it in calypso in dis country.
When she now start tuh sing she use to get boo down all over de place cause nobody did want dis white woman around.
Then she come and had dis big hit "Togethr right here" wey she was singing on a boat etc.
She does still sing calypso but oh god... ah never see ah woman could drink and smoke like she boy...
Waaaayyyy sah! Talk bout rum! Hear nah... when she dead... dey doh even have to carry she by the morgue... she body go be embalmed arready with all de rum she does drink. The alcohol go preserve she.

De odder day... she sing ah song "Nah Leaving"... Is plenty patriotic ting she does be singing an ting nah but nah leaving was a hit too (in its tiny own way)
ok, lemme see what i know bout denise.

She is the first white person to sing calypso. She used to get boo in south every year for Semifinals. But she persevere(?? that spell correct?) She have hair...i dont know what kind because she does wear more weave / wigs than dem girls in lavantille. Ah cant even remember ever seeing her hair. and blue or grey eyes.

She is now well accepted in the Calypso world as well as by calypso lover, and had several hits. I still think her best song is 'nah leaving, is here whe conceive meh, is here i go dead'.
Like Gibbsy says, Denise Plummer is a woman I respect. She has overcome racial stereotypes and man made barriers to become one of the most beloved soca artists we have.
She fought to be taken seriously. She has had successful and thought provoking tunes...allyuh remember " Swing Dem" , regarding the hangings in Trinidad? She also sung one about the lack of honour we pay our heroes while they are alive.
