Travel Info What is a interestin cool fact about tunisia? Travel Tips Tunisia is a small country in North Africa. Parts of Star Wars, The English Patient, Monty Pythons Life of Brian and the Italian directed Life of Christ were filmed here in Tunisia. Not far off the coast of Djerba is Scorpion Island. Legend has it that a long time ago the ruler of Djerba built himself a fortress on a small island just off the coast because his sons kept getting killed by scorpions. He built the fortress for him and his last son to live in. One day went ashore to Djerba to buy grapes for his son, and upon giving the grapes to his son, the last son died because hidden inside the grapes was a a small scorpion. Tunisia was one of the first countries to grant women equal rights, including the right to vote in 1956 Tunisia is a land full of culture, historical significance, and beauty. It has been under the rule of Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs, Berbers, Ottomans, Beys, and French. Unlike most other Arab countries, alcohol is widely sold in Tunisia.Tunisia itself produces a wide range of excellent table wines, sparkling wines, beers, aperitifs and local liqueurs. Tunisia is one of the few places in the world where in most cases you will get a better exchange rate at your hotel than at a bank. As for food, it is very delicious! A combination of traditional Berber, Middle Eastern, and French. The mountain region is breathtaking! There are fantastic views and an the atmosphere is reminiscent of an old town in Switzerland. Absolutely gorgeous! The coast is marvelous. The Sea is clear and picturesque. The midland and south are terrific because they offer you the chance to peek into a forgotten society - one that holds fast to tradition. I have been all over Tunisia and have visited most cities and have loved everyone because they each have their own special charm. The people are so warm and hospitable. They instantly welcome you as one of their own and treat you like family. Tunisia is also a very safe place. There are not many places in this world where a women can walk the streets alone in the middle of the night without fear. Yet I often take late night walks and have never had any problems and have never felt fearful. I could go on and on, but I think I've written enough! lol If I can be of more assistance, feel free to contact me.
