Is it safe to have a vacation in Turkey (specifiaclly Istanbul) right now if you are an American? |
Travel Info Like would it be safe to travel there? Travel Tips What is this ? With all these americans asking if Greece or Turkey are safe for them? Do they live in the most safe country of the world so they get scared and insecure about their safety in other countries which happen to be touristic as well? Others I traveled to Turkey as a stop on a Greecian Cruise last summer, they were very receptive to american travelers, and from the impression I got, they are hurting for tourism in general - so much that I believe the income they make from travelers overtakes any international unrest. Hope this was helpful! Traveling myself Istanbul is a huge city with a specific tourist area. Just like London or NYC it has its safe places and its unsafe places. It is known to have a human trafficing problem (girls from Ukraine and Moldova) but that stays mostly in the non-tourist parts of the city. In the main tourist areas (Taksim to Sultanahmet) pick pocketing and rip-offs are likely your biggest problem. Although I do know of people who have had a knife pulled on them, never heard of anyone getting seriously injured. There are some places that you should avoid at night, just like any place in the states. Beware of dolapdere, tepebasi, backstreets of taksim. As a general rule, stay with the crowd. Don't hesitate to call other people for help if you think there are people that pose a threat to you.Otherwise you'll be safer than most places in the states and europe. Enjoy! No matter where you from. If you come to Turkey you would be our guest. 陌stanbul is much safer than big apple:) Have a nice holiday. Of corz. |
