Travellers cheques? |
Travel Info hi there im off to turkey this year specifically marmaris im taking sterling travellers cheques are these widely accepted for exchange to lira in turkey? thanks in advance for your help Travel Tips I find that the travellers card is a lot easier, it works similar to a debit card, most of the shops, bars and cafes accept them. Before you go you put all your Euros on it at the travel agents, you are insured if it is lost or stolen and it will be replaced in 24 hours. You can use it at most cashpoints with no charge also. Hope that helps. Others I don't use traveller's checks any more if I can help it. I take cash or I use my ATM card worldwide. I don't know about Marmaris but I know you could them in Istanbul when I was there last year (my friend had some). fewer and fewer places accept them now. and they charge commission. the larger exchange shops will accept them but there are so many atms your debit card is best option. and if you have a visa debit card they accept these also. You will have no problem in using travellers Cheques in Turkey especially in the Touristy areas however as you state they are uneconomical but more importantly less secure they can be stolen etc You should use a debit Visa or MasterCard or even credit it is much easier and much more secure. I mean if you need cash you just withdraw from an ATM. No dramas at all, I don't mean use it for shopping etc. Cheers PS Most places in Turkey will take your travellers cheques even the post office. . no problem using travel cheques in Turkey, personally i've stoped taking travel cheques years ago i find much easier and more conveinent to use ATM CARD in Turkey and other parts of the world. Get a Nationwide debit card as they do not charge you commission on any purchases abroad or for withdrawing money at an ATM. Sterling cheques are fine but do not exchange at a bank as they will charge commission. Most hotels or jewellers will be happy to change at curent rates without charging commission. I usually take a mix of traveller cheques, sterling cash and my debit card. |
