Why can't Muslims eat pork?

Travel Info
Being a muslim myself, I never really questioned why we can't eat pork. My parents always told me it is because of sanitary reasons, but I'm not really sure if that's right.

Travel Tips
I am a muslim but i eat pork . But pork is very unhealthy. Dietitians and nutritionists don't advice it because of high level of cholesterol. It is not a healthy choice. The reason was that when this religion came the place was very hot and pork is not easy conserve and that times there were no fridges. But at that times you could't say to people "hey it is unhealthy don't eat" they would just laugh at you. So it was forbidden,it was the easiest way to educate people then. Now people make their own choices i have christian friends who don't eat pork, neither, for health reasons. There are better types of meat like chicken and fish:)

Maybe it was so at the start of the religion... and I mean Judaism with this. You probably know that many traditions in Christianity and Islam come from Jewish traditions.

Today, sanitary reasons arenot valid any more. Still, because the book forbids pork openly (at least as far as I know), Muslims donot eat it.

Personally, I tastes boar and it was fine. I tasted pork meat and sausages, I found them too fatty for my taste.
I am not muslim but i can tell you this: Pork is not healthy to eat.
Seriously, let's get the ridiculous Pig-is-God theory out of the way.

Your parents are absolutely correct. Beginning with the fact that pigs tend to eat all things filthy, these animals can pass unpronounceable diseases to consumers. It is for our health's sake that the holy book promotes leaving pigs alone for future Babe or Barnyard or Shrek sequels
I looked thorough some previous answers and I will copy Andrew M's explanation which also makes sense to me too:

''Not only in ancient times, but up until recent times eating pork carried a lot more dangers than most other meats if it was even slightly undercooked. Pork had to be done well, well, well done.

Pigs eat an omnivorous diet, much like people do, even more so, because pigs will eat stuff we wouldn't go near. As a result, either from rummaging and eating whatever they ran into, or from eating our throwaways, their food was much more likely to introduce various pathogens that, while the pig might be able to carry on without too much effect, would infect human eaters.

As a result, many older religions (including Judeaism) considered pork to be "evil," and proscribed eating it. Makes sense - eat it, get sick, it's evil.

Parasites, tapeworms and, in particular trichinosis were infamous pork-borne diseases.

Since science taught us from whence those pathogens came, standards improved on requirements for the pigs' diets. "Slop" now has to be thoroughly cooked and sterilized before feeding them to pigs, and many farmers focus more intensely on a vegetable-centric diet for the animals, since a lot of the dangerous bacteria and germs thrive more on meat than plants.

Nowadays, there's no physical or scientific reason for it, but religion is very much about traditions and belief. Now it's because it's considered necessary to be pure and holy, so it really does boil down to "because of the religion."

But at least we can see where it came from.''

It is also stated in Kur'an and the old testiment Bible that it is forbbidden to eat. Like Muslims, Jewish people and the christians who also follow the old testiment do not eat pork- (swine).
