Travel Tips
The main obstacles ahead of Turkey are economical problems and improvement of civil rights of the citizens. Apart from that, there is nothing to hinder Turkey's membership (on paper).
In reality, some European leaders are still living in the Middle Ages. They constantly tell their people that Turks are Muslims (so what, nowhere in EU documents it says that EU is Christian); that Turks will flood into Europe looking for jobs (why would they when the economy improves?).
As Turkey gradually fulfills the official requirements for membership, they keep inventing new excuses, which are not part of the qualifications to become an EU member. They talk of silly things like the Armenian problem, the Cyprus problem, the Kurdish problem etc. etc.
For decades they have been exploiting the Armenian diaspora by seemingly supporting the notion of the so called genocide. They don't seem to remember the genocides executed by themselves (Africa, the Americas...)
They hide behind the pretext of Cyprus, closing their eyes to the fact that Turkey and Turkish Cypriots strongly favored the UN plan (Annan plan) for a reunification and peaceful solution of the problem, but Greek Cypriots, who refused it were admitted to the Union.
They (and the US) are using the Kurds with the hope of getting the oil in Northern Iraq, and the water resources of Turkey in its south-east. They don't care a bit about their economical, educational problems.
And no, I do not believe in a Turkic Union with our cousins in Central Asia. Turkey's future lies in the western values, in the virtues of western philosophy, not in the hypocrisy of its political leaders.
Some day soon, Turkey will be ready for membership, but may decide to reject it. Enough is enough. Just like every nation, every people (maybe even more), Turks have a national pride and honor. No one can keep on playing with that for long.
The end? Well, I guess Europe will regret it, nor Turkey.
Others
Just like before, EU politicians are using the name "Turkey" as a threat to put an end to internal struggles and unite the peoples of Europe. It didn't work before, it won't work now.

Turkey would be an opportunity for EU, but the project seems to be stuck for now.
No, it wouldn't and won't.

Also half of Turkish people don't want EU.
turkey will never be admitted into the EU... Turkey is a Muslim nation and the rest of the EU is Christian. In my opinion Christians are not ready to accept Muslims to be a part of thier nation.
Turkey and the Turks don't want the EU, it's the current Government that is using the EU as a vehicle in order to water down the Turkish Armed Forces, however they don't stand a chance.

Forget about the European Union, here comes the Turkic Union have a look at this web site and look at all the agreements being signed between all the Turkic States from Central Asia.

The former citizens of the old Ottoman Empire are beginning to wake up and regroup. That's all Turkey needs.
