Travel Tips This is not the first time i have heard a Turk saying "Islam has destroyed the Turks" I really think you need to educate your selfs about religion before making such pathetic remarks about Islam. O.k if Turkey is a secular country than at least be proud to say that our country is 95% muslims or are you to ashamed to say that too.. I may not be practising my religion much, but im sure Proud to be and to say that im a Muslim. Others Fantastic, I like "Gokbayrak" most. You can see my flag: http://kulunkoglu.blogspot.com/... I visited Uzbekistan in 2005. i don't think turks will be ever united again. i wish but it won't happen. islam destroyed and turned all of us to arabs. you don't have to agree . that's what i think. Many old turkish words do not exist in our language anymore. That'was the identical language and culture all the turks shared. We can't seperate a nation's race from its language. But islam did that. history of islam against turks. We shared the same period and cultural habits, but we lost all these with converting islam. And now it is an utophia we ever unite again. word merhaba or tesekkur are they even turkish! arabs say marhaba i thought you are a turk. guess i was wrong . we Turks helped islam not other way! i don't wanna read kuran i wanna read orkhun alphabet. arabs religion destroying turks. you dont have to agree I think what we have as a country T眉rkiye defined by Atat眉rk is enough for us Turks... we have no eyes on other countries lands and we wont give an inch to the other... but we should have better relationships with other turkic people cos we are still very similar... Dear bird I agree with you in some ways but also we have a lot of french and nowadays english words in Turkish language, I am worried about them more... Nice videos from an Uzbek Turk. Since these kind of videos are in favor of Turan, yes I would like to see Turks united. I don't understand what Islam has to do with this, aren't Central Asian Turks Muslim? Yes they are, so what makes us less *Turk* than they are? Let's assume all of the Turks on the planet are Arabized. As far as I know Central Asian Turks are far from being Arabized they seem to be mostly Russianized.I look at Turkey and I don't think it looks like an Arab country. But yes I think women head scarves, some men having long beards are Arabized people. Why on earth would you cover your head? But now that we are a very secular country I find it unnecessary to even discuss how *Turkish* we are in relation to religion. Because this means you are not Turkish enough if you are Muslim. This is an insult to the martyrs we're giving now in the east and it is an insult to the ones we gave in the past. I am firstly a Turk then a Muslim like most of the people- except a small minority- in Turkey. Being Turkish and being Muslim are not rivalries. Islam is not and alternative to Turkishness and Turkishness is not an alternative to Islam. I believe my Turkish ancestors knew what they were doing when they were converting to another religion. Let's come to language, most of the Arabic and Persian words in Turkish are not even pronounced like Arabic and Persian. Even Nihal Atsiz who was not a Muslim and an ultra-nationalist Turk, admits that these words are Turkisized. These words do not necessarily have to be a result of interaction with Islam since we unfortunately have so many Greek,French and even English words in our language as well. What can you do as an individual? You'll avoid using those words. Say "Sagol" (It's Turkish isn't it?) instead of "Tesekkur ederim or merci" . I definitely disagree with welle22, we are not Arabs and we do not have to learn Arabic to read Quran. Turkish translation is available. Most of the people say it does not give the same feeling but I don't know why I should read something I don't understand or memorize its meaning. In conclusion, we need closer relations with Central Asian Turks who are our real blood brothers. |
