You can do anything that you want in Istanbul. YOu want to visit historical places. they are countless. hagia sophia museum,yerebatan,topkapi,dolma... palace...
You want to go out and have fun at night? Go have fun until the morning.
You want to shop? From a little market to luxurious shops...
You want to be near the sea? bosphorus is waiting for you. Eat fish and meze drink Raki:) or white Turkish wine:)
Good food? wooowww you can taste Turkish and Ottoman Cuisine one of the best cuisines of the world.
Visit the only city on both continents:)

I went on a Mediterranean Cruise two years ago and I would absoluately recommend Istanbul, for the cultural experience if nothing else. I was in awe with the Blue Mosque and when we were there I saw many young boys dressed in elegant costums to celebrate their circumcision. It was a great experience, but I can't help you out with hotels etc, as we stayed on the cruise ship at night.
I have been to Istanbul quite a while ago. The people were friendly. Nightlife was good from the small cafes to the larger clubs. all was well there. I've seen the Blue Mosque and Tokapi Palace. even the supposed hair and sandals of Mohammed and the staff of Moses. It was nice and I have no complaints. A city with so much mystery, exotic images, tantalising tastes and interesting history...
Of course i would recommend... get yourself over here and enjoy your holiday.. check the tourism ratings of Turkey.... all those people coming here every year must know something...

istanbul is one of the most exciting cities in the world.one side there are lots of skyscrapers and on the other side the ancient palaces,mosques and churchs! while shopping in the world's second largest shopping mall ( Cevahir ) you can taste the unique Ottoman cousine.This is Istanbul, where the west and east get together.

Yes, go. I go there a few times in a year...but unfortunately I only go there for only 3 days or so. You definitely need to stay there for atleast 2 weeks in order to fully grasp the Istanbul/Turkish culture. :-) You really need to go, it's really fun and there's so many things to do. Historical sites, nightclubs, tourist places, etc.
