What can you tell me about Turkey.....? |
Travel Info as a travel destination for a solo woman Travel Tips modern, developed, historical, safe ,touristic, cheap and really worths seeing it.Every year millions of people visit Turkey, you will be welcomed too! Others I like so much turkey........... I would not travel alone to Turkey if I were you. When we visited as children my sister almost got kidnapped, the adults we offered cocaine, we found syringes on the beach and there are a lot of people about hassling you. Also Turkish men can be quite forward with women, especially tourists. I'm sure I will get a lot of negative rating but it's the TRUTH. I am not lying or exaggerating. So go ahead rate me down for telling the truth because you don't like it. I never been there so i wouldnt know Solo woman?? Oh my gosh....Don't go there...Sure lots of things to do, but you should also consider your safety....My cousin almost got raped and my aunt (her mother) has been stolen....... Don't you see the News?? Take Care Dear Chanel, Clearly, it is a matter for yourself however Turkey is a very safe place have a look at the comparative crime statistics available on line. Istanbul although one of the largest cities in Europe has one of the if not THE lowest levels of crime. The people that have given Turkey a bad rap are Armenians, do not listen to their anit - Turkish Rhetoric. Go onto the Australian section and ask the 15 thousand Australians and New Zealanders that go every year for ANZAC day, I am not suggesting it is the BEST place in the world and I guarantee NOTHING will happen to you but there is just as much crime if not more so in places like Australia, New Zealand, and if you compare it with the bigger nations like the US, Germany and the UK much less crime. It's a matter of being sensible, lots of solo women go to Turkey and have a great time. If you stick to the touristy areas and not go to the South Eastern part of Turkey where there is a dispute between the PKK Terrorists you will not have any more problems then you would going to the UK or the USA. A matter for your self, I go to Turkey every couple of years with my young family and we have never had any problems, my wife and two daughters often going shopping by themselves, (as in the three of them together, because my daughters are young). So I say do not listen to the Anti - Turkish Rhetoric from the Armenians. Ok, I'm a foreign woman living in Turkey, so I have a different perspective on this and I will try to be as diplomatic as possible. Turks are extremely gregarious, and can't understand why anyone would want to be alone. Sure, it's easy travelling with a family--especially if one speaks Turkish, as I imagine the case is with Enver Pasha. Single men, not so much of a problem. However, in Turkey, women's traditional role is in the home--and much of today's customs are strictly determined along socio-economic lines. Sure, you have your upper-class educated, fully Westernised Turks who understand a Western woman's need for space, but as a tourist, you probably wouldn't have very much personal interaction with them. Rather, the types of people who run little restaurants and shops tend to have emigrated from villages where even making eye contact with a woman is considered flirting. Take the perceived need for company as well as the "reputation" of foreign women instilled into these men from movies and TV into account, and these guys working in these touristy areas practically think you're begging them for attention. Walking into a bar by yourself is pretty much stupid. Also, I know my Turkish friends on here will claim otherwise, but if you're walking around and look "foreign" (with lighter hair, eyes and skin), I would recommend that you at least cover down to the knees, avoid shorts, make sure your shirt comes up to about your collarbone and don't wear strappy tank tops ("muscle shirts" are ok). Seek the company of other women as you travel (you should do that at any destination anyway). |
