Anyone from or been to Dhubai? Abu Dhabi? |
Travel Info My husband will be going to Abu Dhabi for work. I am thinking of joining him and go for a tour. Is this a nice place to tour? Is it safe for a woman to tour alone there? Generally is Abu Dhabi a safe place? Travel Tips I think you'll have a fabulous time in Abu Dhabi. I lived there when I was a child, and it was perfectly safe -- my mother used to walk and drive everywhere with me and my younger brother. You'll be able to do some fantastic shopping in the souks (markets), bargaining for jewelry and fabrics and clothes, and if you need to get inside and wallow in the air conditioning, there's the four-storey Abu Dhabi Mall -- you'll recognize all the stores like Benetton and the Body Shop -- and the Marina Mall, with Zara and IKEA. It will be hot, yes, but there are plenty of places to cool off. And don't worry about being a woman alone -- my mother often took us to the Ladies Beaches and Ladies Parks, which are only open to women (and often boys under six). They're great places to sit and relax and explore (the parks are more like amusement parks in some cases, with carousels and ferris wheels!) and the beaches are beautiful and you never feel threatened. Honestly, do join your husband -- Abu Dhabi is such an interesting and fascinating city; there's so much to see and do (I've given you a link below), and it would be a shame to miss out. Plus, then you'll be one less person in the world who thinks Abu Dhabi is full of "houses made out of mud." Hope this helps -- enjoy your trip! Dubai is a wonderful city;I think everyone should visit at least one time. They have great shopping centers and a even better night life. I have not, but planning on going in 2010.
