Travel Tips
The most difficult part ist to FIND an appartment and then to AFFORD what you found. Below I listed the average rents for Abu Dhabi, but by now I guess they have got more up.

The average rents in Abu Dhabi (Gulf News)

Studio Apartment from Dh 25.000 - Dh 35.000
One bedroom from Dh 40.000 to Dh 60.000
Two bedroom from Dh 70.000 to Dh 85.000
Three bedroom from Dh 75.000 to Dh 120.000 and above

Right now Abu Dhabi is kind of short of accomodation due to the fact that many buildings get turned down so greedy landlords can rent the apartments out new for a much higher rent.
Your company should at least provide you with temporaly housing and pay for it until you find something on your own.
The so called "hotel appartments" are very expensive!
If you are into sharing accomodation, take a look in the daily paper under Classified.

For the requirements and how to rent a place, look here:

Look also at an answer I gave a lady a couple days ago:

Car hire companies in the UAE can be classified into two categories, which directly relate to the security deposit left when renting a car. Category 1 or credit card deposit rent a car companies require that you present a valid credit card on collection of the car, which is either imprinted/photocopied or blocked/reserved for a given amount. Category 2 or passport deposit rent a car companies require that a passport is left as a deposit, and the passport holder must sign the car rentals form. The majority of rent a car companies in the UAE are shifting to the credit card deposit security system, as it is the worldwide method of car renting.

Most car rental companies require that the driver be over the age of 21 and has driven for over a year. They also require that the driver's license be a valid UAE, GCC, or International drivers' license. Some companies also charge additional fees for driver's who are under the age of 25. As stated above, most rent a car companies are shifting to the credit card deposit security system, which means that they require a credit card for you to rent a car. Most companies will also require that you submit the following documents - passport photocopy and driver鈥檚 license photocopy.

Btw. When you got hired from the US and come here on an employment visa, are you sure housing and transportation isn't provided? It mostly is!
