Do you need to wear niqab when you go to the marketplace in Sharjah? |
Travel Info My friend recently moved to Dubai. She shops for her groceries in Sharjah. She said when she goes there she wears niqab because of the stares she received from men. Travel Tips You don't need to wear a niqab at all. Sharjah is more strict than Dubai but not as strict as Saudi Arabia. But I can understand her. There are places where I would like to be invisible too and get rid of almost everybody around staring at me. I imagine a niqab makes you nicely undercover...... a good idea. Source(s): Dubai resident Other Travel Tips not at all ... she might just been in the wrong time at the wrong place :) You do not have to wear niqab in Sharjah. Islam does not require women to wear it at all, nor does the U.A.E. Sharjah is much more Conservative than Dubai though. If she does wear it, then she just chooses to do so. I also frequent Islamic countries, and I know that they like to stare at foreign women, just because they are different. No Niqab is neither an Islamic Law, nor a Sharjah Law, and not even the UAE's Law. Wearing a veil is an Islamic Law, but not a law in the UAE. Meaning that you can wear it for practicing your religion not something you are obliged to do by the country's law. Don't worry, we do not have the same law that Saudi Arabia & Iran has. On the contrary, it's the same thing. If you are in the US, you see an Arab passing by wearing his traditional clothes. I assure you he'll get many stares. It's just human nature. It's no problem. I don't think something will ever happen to her. If she EVER, I mean EVER encounters danger all she got to do is dial "999". Regards, Fanano Dubaian, UAE citizen its like everyone has replied. the niqab being required or not is a split decision amongst our scholars and has been for centuries. It is up to you which of the scholars' opinions to follow. And its your choice to wear it or not wear it here in UAE, Alhamdulillah :D but I will tell you, the stares I got wearing just the hijab (the headscarf) in the USA are NOTHING compared to the stares I get here in UAE... OMG I haaaaated it so much I finally started wearing niqab. And they are more creepy stares...like they are undressing me with their eyes. And, it is far less, but I still get stares even thought I'm wearing niqab!! |
