How can you make time fly so quickly here in Dubai?

Travel Info
I've been working here for 5 months already and I miss my home town already...
it's still about 6 months to go before my vacation...
What shall I do to pass the time???
I hate being homesick... to the point that I wished to be terminated from work so I can go home. :(

Travel Tips
From my own experience I know that the shopping malls, restaurants and cocktail bars behind the glittering fa莽ades of this city will only offer you amusement and distraction for a limited time. When I came here, I was a big critic of the local 'lifestyle' which is being propagated by the tourism authorities. And I still am!

What I first did was to build up a completely new circle of friends. International ones. Today, I mostly hang out with Arabs from Lebanon, Syria and Egypt rather than western expats. Dubai is an emerging and growing city and there are new people in exactly the same situation as you are. Take it as what it really is - a positive challenge which allows you to approach completely new people from other backgrounds, ethics and cultures.

I discovered the pleasure of smoking sheeshah in many different places with my new friends. We meet at our apartments every here and then. Sometimes there is a trip to the East coast (Dibba, Fujairah) and to the desert or some wadis for some offroad tours. Outdoor life can be great fun, and I hate to say it but you might have missed out on some of the best parts of it: winter!

Other ideas? Go to the Gold Souq in Deira, take an Abra to the other side of the Creek, walk along the mole at Jumeirah Beach Hotel and capture the nicest view of the Burj Al Arab. Discover the Heritage Village in Hatta. Book a relaxing massage in one of the shops located in smaller malls. Learn how to read Arabic and broaden your horizon.

I do all of this every here and then, and have started enjoying the city a lot more than before. Its diversity and multi-ethnicity is a very positive asset and you should try to make the most of it as long as you are here. Source(s): Living in the sand pit as well ;-)
