What are some things i need to know before travelling to Dubai? |
Travel Info I am leaving in 5 days and going for only 5 days. What are the most interesting things to see and to do? Travel Tips Desert Safaris Trips to the desert in groups can be a great way to explore the desert and also know other people and find out a little bit more about the Arabic culture. Safaris are generally half day and can include an overnight stay in one of the Bedouin tents. 1. Wadi-Driving - This is a popular pastime with both residents and visitors. This involves exploring the wadis or dry beds of streams that flow after winter rains from the Hajar mountains. 2. Dune driving - Driving in sand can be a thrilling experience by itself and this combines the excitement of a roller coaster ride with the challenge of remaining mobile on the shifting surface. Courses in sand driving are available, with four-wheel-drive vehicles provided, along with expert instruction. 3. Sand-Skiing - Those with a penchant for speed, a head for heights and enthusiasm for an unusual sport will enjoy sand-skiing down the dunes of the Dubai desert. 4. Desert Feasts - Safaris are made more pleasurable by culminating into an evening with spectacular sunset views followed by a traditional Arab barbecue under the stars. Kingfish, jackfish, red snapper, rock cod (the popular Hamour on most Dubai menus), barracuda and other species are caught commercially and not for sport. Sailfish and bottom-feeding sharks are regularly landed by visiting fishermen who can hire fully-equipped boats, with crew, for deep-sea fishing trips. Others go to lonelyplanet.com dear first of all it's a hot place, so bring just dresses which u can wear in a hot and humid place, then comes the point of stay.............here u'll find a lot of traffic so if u r going to stay in a hotel, try to get one which is not located in densely populated area, the reason is u r coming only for 5 days, and u'll not have tht much time. secondly the currency i.e amount u'll b having. here almost every where u'll find a lot of money exchanges, so i am sure it won't b ne problem 4 u.i guess almost all the currency r xchangeable. now about ur interest in visit places..............give a try to visit burj-al-arab hotel,beaches,mall of the emirates, ibn-batuta mall, desert safari, wild wadi and yes there r some disco clubs as well as museums. Lycra provided a good list already, so i will just add some comments. Many of the activities Lycra listed can be found through Arabian Adventures. I have used them for corporate events and they are top notch. The dune drive gets boring after about 15 minutes but dinner in the dunes at a bedouin camp is fantanstic. Skiing in the mall of the emirates takes about 1 hour and is worth the $35 U.S. not more though. The mall that used to be an airport in Sharja is a good place to shop for rugs etc...It is going to be very hot this time of year...too hot for the beach in my opinion. A water taxi ride from the gold suuk up Dubia creek at night is nice and cheap. You can only drink alcohol in the hotels and the airport. I hope this helps. |
