Travel Info What's the difference between Vadodara and Baroda? And other stations that have changed names.? Travel Tips Most of the change in names are motivated by many reasons. 1. Regional pride, national pride. 2. Reverting back to old names. Some of the name were change in British( or other colonic times) times because first communication had wrong spelling. eg V and B are interchange in German, English and Russian. Certain European language lack enough vowels, most India alphabets have 36 letters, English has only 26. When these ten more sounds are combine with other 26 you are missing out and miss pronouncing lots and lots of words. 3. Eliminating names of occupational people with local heroes. ..................... ...... ... Others baroda is the balance of british raj and vadodara is its local name British people changed the name to baroda as those crazy people could not pronounce vadodara. as simple as that. same allpies to all other cities. The difference is that Vadodara is spelt through local state language and the name Baroda was given at the time of british rulers so wasnt accepted. Similarly, the names have been changed for :Bombay to Mumbai, Calcutta to Kolkatta, and now even Ahmedabad is going to be changed to Karnavati in future There is no difference in teh cities. Just the name. A lot of the locals still refer to the city as Baroda. It is an interesting city with some down sides until you get used to the people. The people are extremely honest as most Indians. A huge difference to where I am from but I enjoyed my stay there. Buzzard Mumbai and Bombay |
