Is Vancouver a Suitable City for me to live in? |
Travel Info I'm planning to move to Vancouver this June. I've heard a lot of good stories about the city. I'm a nature lover, and I'm not really into nightlife activities such as clubbing etc, well, except for cozy pub/piano bar. I'm a culinary student, and I've heard Van has nice restaurants. So, I'm kinda looking for a peaceful place to live in. Travel Tips Contrary to another opinion, there ARE MANY peaceful neighborhoods, right in Vancouver, and not just in the more affluent areas, either. I happen to live in one, with modest two story older homes, tree lined streets, little traffic, yards, parks, and friendly neighbors. There are many restaurants of all cultural cuisines, so many parks, and skiing, snowboarding, hiking and mountain biking anywhere from 5 to 25 minutes from the downtown area. I daily walk just a 7 block radius of my home, and I can see the harbour, two ski areas, the downtown skyline, walk by six parks, and take numerous photo's of the areas because they are so beautiful, including the neighborhoods. Due to it's location, there is little land available as the greater Vancouver area is hemmed in by the sea to the west, mountains to the north and the US border to the south. As a result, density of population is increasing. Development is rapidly spreading east which is adding to the existing traffic nightmare. The benefits are: availability of work and an exciting multi-cultural city environment. The downsides: cost of accommodation and commuting time. The population and development issues have emerged because so many people want to live there! So it is a good place to live, but the main residential areas are not especially peaceful. Also good on sky train and sea bus. Check tourismvancouver . down side high crime on the east side .. lots of work the Olympics are comming.. lived here 67 years Vancouver sounds like the place for you to live in. There are plenty of parks in the North Shore and parts of Vancouver for cycling, walking, roller blading. Vancouver has some great ethnic restaurants in the city. Great places to live in Vancouver: Mount Pleasant, Kitsilano, West Vancouver, North Shore (North Vancouver) and down by the Vancouver Airport--which area escapes me! East Vancouver is ok.....it really depends on where you live, because they have some bad areas! Welcome to Vancouver! i know you'll love it in Vancouver!!!
