Is vancouver a good place to study my masters?? |
Travel Info how is the weather, cost of living ? Travel Tips yea, weather is hot just like u, costly yes. cheers Others my english tutor told me that in Vancouver, people speak Cantonese/Mandarin more than English....when you randomly dial a phone number, you should be expecting 'wai?' instead of 'hello?' So...it really depends on your preference....a good place to learn chinese as my tutor said....lol my english tutor Vancouver is rated as one of the best places in the world to live. The weather is great in the summer but winter is pretty much non-stop rain. It rarely snows and when it does, it is usually gone within a couple of days. There are only 2 major universities in Vancouver (UBC & SFU) they both have their strengths so you'd better do your homework depending on your field. Lots of great outdoor activities, amazing restaurants.. in general a very multicultural city that is generally quite safe. BUT... cost of living can be high but if you look closely you can find fair rent (depending on which area you pick) and good inexpensive food can be found easily. The other comment about more people speaking Chinese vs English is moronic. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/4306... http://www.cnn.com/2005/world/europe/10/... live here... Vancouver is a nice place to live, mild weather relative to teh rest of Canada.. beautiful scenery, lots of nearby outdoor opportunities for recreation - skiing, hiking, boating, beaches.. cost of living is quite high though. There is a large Asian population but English is the majority language by far.. the english tutor mentioned earlier has NO idea. Biggest consideration IMO is what kind of programs are available at either of the two universities (UBC or SFU) that are specific to your masters. Both have quite different offerings and curriculae - but if it is you masters - I would think that is the BIGGEST issue. Vancouver local |
