Is Vancouver like Los Angeles? |
Travel Info I've been looking at pictures of Los Angeles and I was wondering- does Vancouver mimic Los Angeles? Both these cities have huge and large suburbs and houses combined with natural scenery and a nice compact downtown. Do you agree? Travel Tips Vancouver's more like San Francisco in my opinion.. both are fairly compact, and more pedestrian friendly (try walking ANYWHERE in LA), they're also hemmed in by water and have a lot of green space and picturesque surroundings in addition to more urban density. BTW, Vancouver's suburbs are all incorporated cities or municipalities (The Greater Vancouver Regional District) but the city itself is fairly compact (esp. in comparison to LA) whereas the City of LA is still quite huge and sprawling. Source(s): have lived in all 3 Other Travel Tips Vancouver does not mimick L.A. at all...they're very different cities culture wise, architechtually, and atmosphere wise. If you're from Vancouver, as soon as you hope off the plane in L.A. you'll know what I am talking about; there is so much haze there, and it's very polluted. People are less friendly, but this is mainly because L.A. is so much more of a busy city. Vancouver has a nice, somewhat busy downtown....but L.A.'s downtown is much more spaced out, and somehow, still more busy. I agree with Chigga. In addition, Los Angeles is a huge area of many concrete Freeways and miserable Public Transportation. Vancouver has no Freeways and good Public ransportation. Vancouver is a very pleasant city in which to live. I have never understood why anyone would want to live in LA. I've been in both places, starting Vancouver is a nice city but cold so that make people a bit cold as well, it has many things to offer but LA has much more. There is big cultural differente between them. I would never live in any of those cities. I like Vancouver's sight seen better than LA. I was born and have lived in the Vancouver area my entire 40+ years and can tell you that Vancouver is different in many ways from LA but both cities have lots to offer. The biggest difference between the 2 is that Vancouver is very green. This is due to the large amount of rain we get each year. The city is a working harbour - like LA but no where near the size. It takes about 1 hours to go 30 miles (50km) in rush hour and while the LA freeways are pretty good - I know that is often not the case there. Our downtown area has a lot of residential buildings so other than the very small financial/business area, it isn't deserted on the weekends like downtown LA is. Our weather would be the most significant difference since ours is rather temperate with the summers maxing out at about 90F (28C). Probably the closest comparison on the US side would be Seattle or Portland(Oregon) but even Portland has hotter summers than us. Well yeah there pretty much the same, we are both surrounded by hills but Los Angeles has more pollution causing it to be sort of bad. |
