:-( Vancouver B.C. is very racist?

Travel Info
Is Vancouver B.C. racist? I'm from the States, I was visiting Vancouver last summer and I was having such a good time until I was talking to one of the locals on Stanley Island in Downtown Vancouver. The man was white about 30 years old, he said I could visit and spend my money but for Gods sake I shouldn't even think about staying because Canada was already getting over-run by too many asians as it is. :-( I am Filipino and he still called me a "Chink" as if I were Chinese but I'm not.

Do you Canadians agree with him? Do you support what he said to me? Was it OK for him to do? I told him he was being a jerk and he said I should **** off and to stop breeding more yellow babies.

All in all, is Vancouver B.C. a racist City or what? If it's racist, why is it so racist? How did it get to be so racist?

I was so ashamed and embarrased when this happened and some bystanders were starring at me.

Travel Tips
I'm from Ontario and I will tell you something ... you will always be able to find a racist person anywhere you go. I've acrtually heard Quebec is the most racist province. But anywho, please don't take it to heart. Some people are jerks. A friend of mine and I used to work at the same grocery store.. she is half Lebenese and one girl that went through her cash one day said to her that people like her shouldn't be able to work "our" jobs and that they're taking our jobs away from us! She ran off crying.. I wish I was there that day I woulda told that beotch off!!

So, all in all you will find racist people all over. I do hope you don't take that jerk's comments too hard and do come back and visit. Having different cultures and races I think is a very important thing.

From my experiences (traveled their over 10 times), Vancouver is not a racist city at all. Sadly, in every city there is going to be racists.

I'm very sorry you had such a bad experience in such a nice city.
I am from Vancouver, and I don't know a single racist person. We are a very multicultural city, and very tolerant of all races/religions. I remember being taught in school from a very early age about racism, and how it hurts.
I have overheard people on the bus make racist remarks occasionally when the bus is crowded and the majority of passengers are Asian, but that is the only incident I can think of. I'm sorry you had that experience here.

Don't you think "Stop breeding yellow babies" is a racist remark?
Being a true Canadian I can only say there are jerks all over the world and unfortunately you met a real one and during your visit here.

No, we are not all like him and people in Canada should never be labeled or blamed for one person opinion.
You met a JERK.. I am proud to be married to a FILLIPINA.. Please come back again
I believe Robert R is nothing more than a Troll who has no life and is just simply starving for attention. Please don't Feed the Troll.

As for Racism in Vancouver. There will be racism everywhere you go. In my experience the Whites are the most racist of them all. No other race group is so organized with their hatred. The KKK for example. Not to mention all the Skin Heads and all the Neo-Nazis that are the rubbish of the Earth. You don't see the yellow, brown, or black race exibiting this same type of behavior.

Also don't forget about Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Benito Musolini and so on and so on. The guy who bombed Oklahoma City and killed hundreds of civilians was a white man. So was the Uni-bomber. Also the 3 boys who went on a shooting sprea in Columbine High School were also white.

But you don't here about those people very often. The Media in the United States just wants to make Minorities look bad.
