Vancouver in the summer? |
Travel Info Myself and fifteen others are heading to Vancouver for three months from Ireland and I'm just looking for advice. I'd like to know about places to live, jobs, things to see and do in general. Travel Tips Be prepared to enjoy (shared with San Francisco, New York City, and Toronto) the best Chinese food in North America. The Vancouver area has lots of Indian and Pakistani immigrants, too, when you are in the mood for masala curries. Make sure to take the boat to Victoria. Lovely little city; very British architecture. Enjoy our B.C. wines. Some are among the best in the world but we do not make enough for exporting (kind of like Switzerland). Tall, almost 1700 meter mountains jut up at harbour's edge from the northern near suburbs of the city! Others These times it seems they miss people for work, so if you get a visa that permit you to work, should be not so long to get a job, especially if you have specific skills or talk 2 languages or more. Nice place to live from what some friends of mine said, I just visited it last year, was a vwonderful time. Don't miss Stanley park http://www.city.vancouver.bc.ca/parks/pa... (really huge, can be there for days...), his aquarium and many parks around to hike and visit. Victoria Island too, and Butchart Gardens are amazing www.butchartgardens.com http://www.tourismvancouver.com/visitors... Good visit ! Visit the City of Vancouver's web site www.city.vancouver.bc.ca. Click on visitor and it will give you all the info you are looking for. Job market is really hot right now so you should land retail jobs very easily. Try www.working.com to look up jobs before you arrive or also the Government of Canada Job Bank. Where to stay depends on your financial resources mostly. Closer to the city could be very expensive, but you can always find shared accomodations. As everyone says, don't miss stanley park, even though like half of it blew down in the storms this year. Also take a weekend and go north to Squamish and Whistler. Lots of hiking trails and amazing scenery if you are willing to climb. Thats the real beauty of the place!!! You are going to Vancouver. French is basically useless unless you got a government job and then it has to be Quebec french not Paree french. Seems to be some difference. Construction and other are gung ho, you got a job. It rains alot. But your from Ireland so probably the same. Go to the Okanagan. Sun sun sun Go to Granville island! it's amazing! been there loads :) |
