Any west coast canadians out there?

Travel Info
we are travelling to british columbia, canada this summer. one of our party is in a wheelchair so we are a bit limited as to what we can do as far as sightseeing. one thing we would like to do is travel from vancouver to victoria. are there tour buses that go from vancouver to victoria, tour the city of victoria and then return to vancouver?
any other suggestions as to what to see while in vancouver and surrounding areas? this will be a one time trip for the wheelchair folks so we want to make it memorable for them! any suggestions, etc. would be so much appreciated.
cheers

Travel Tips
Vancouver and Victoria are bothvery wheelchair accessible. However finding wheelchair accessable tours buses isn't that easy!

Pacific Coach Lines offers accessible service between Vancouver and Victoria. call 604.662.7575. I have never seen a lift on one of their buses. I would call to confirm that they have a lift.

I found a good site about victoria that has lots of useful links. But I didn't find info about wheelchair accessable tours. http://www.accessvictoria.com/

Gray line tours is another tour bus operator, but I wasn't able to see anything on their website about the buses being wheelchiar accessable. I would assume that they aren't.

In both Vancouver and Victoria, the public buses are wheelchair accessable with ramps. www.translink.bc.ca

This website was also very helpful, although it is more about vancouver than victoria but it's a good resource

I know that there are smaller tour operators who specialize in wheelchair tours. I have seen them, but I can't find a website. But I think that if you make some phone calls you will find one.

hope this helped, enjoy your time in BC!

I would venture to say that the majority of sightseeing in Vancouver is very wheelchair friendly.

As for tours there are various companies but they seem to have the following restrictions in regards to wheelchairs.

Wheelchairs -- Can you accommodate passengers in wheelchairs?
Wheelchair facilities are available for some services. However, passengers in a wheelchair can be accommodated on tours only if they can get on and off the tour vehicle on their own. The wheelchair must be foldable. The driver is not permitted to assist handicapped persons due to insurance restrictions.

I am unsure of the limitations of the wheelchair folks in your group but I am positive that they will have a memorable trip.

This is a good site for checking out what is going on in Vancouver.

Enjoy your trip.
Hope you have a great time in Vancouver, lots to see and do....Gastown, Stanley Park,Van Dusen gardens, Granville Island, all of these are accessable by city buses, and they do accommodate wheelchairs. As for Victoria, try Greyline tour company. This summer in Victoria at the Royal Museum there is an exhibit from the Titanic. Also, the Butchart Gardens is world famous and can accommodate wheel chairs on most of the pathways. You might want to phone 1800hellobc, they can give you tons of info for free and might be able to tell you more about wheelchair accessibility in the city. I hope you have a wonderful vacation here in Vancouver, and if you get the chance, visit Whistler (site of the 2010 winter olympics.

Hi Ozzie! I know you will have a wonderful visit to beautiful British Columbia. I am just getting ready to visit Australia, and so looking forward to it.

Vancouver and Victoria are both VERY wheelchair friendly. You should be able to get around with ease. Tons of tour buses, it's lovely to take a ferry ride from van to vic.
Very scenic. So much to see and do, I couldn't possibly list it all. Please visit all our tourism websites on Vancouver and Victoria to find all the activities and events. No matter what you do,it will be a memorable trip! Guaranteed!
