Flood warning? |
Travel Info Will Richmond be affected by the flooding? Travel Tips No, Richmond and most Vancouver suburbs may not be effected much by the flooding. I asked some of my co-workers who live in Richmond and they haven't been warned by their municipality about preparing to vacate their premises. That's a good sign. So far, the only local flooding has been in the upper Fraser Valley: evacuation advisory notices (must be ready to leave on a moments notice) have been given in parts of Maple Ridge (who are on the wrong side of the dikes), Langley, Abbotsford, and Chilliwack. Having said that, the worst of the flooding was in north-western BC, like Terrace, and here in the Lower Mainland, because of lighter than expected rainfall experts expect the lower Fraser to reach a forecast high of just over 7.0 metres at the Mission guage, half a metre less than predicted earlier. Cheers, Petra M, Vancouver Others Unlikely, as there is a good system of dikes in Richmond. But global warming will be another story. Communities in northwest B.C. have also been affected ... river levels to rise dramatically, triggering flooding from Harrison to Richmond. |
