On a visit to Vancouver from California?

Travel Info
I can't believe the weather's been like this the past 10 days. Can someone tell me why it's 14C in Vancouver in June? It's supposed to be above 20, and sunny!

And Canadians hate to admit Canada's cold...

Does anyone else find Vancouver a depressing city?

Travel Tips
As a traveller to Canada, from Australia, I have a different point of view and don't suffer from the rivalry that obviously exists between Canadians and Americans, so I'm neutral.
With that in mind, I agree Vancouver is a cold city by general world standards, in my opinion Canada is a cold country in general, especially if you're used to Californian weather (I have visited). On the other hand, for Canadians who have grown up in this environment, its not out of the ordinary, so the word 'hot' means something different to them.
This is just a case of communication differences - 'hot' means a different thing to a Californian than it does to a Canadian, and 'nice weather' also means something completely different (generally just that its not snowing or pouring with rain).
So Canadians don't necessary hate admitting Canada is cold, its just they are using a different scale to someone from California, like yourself. It is all relative.
So bearing that in mind, I do find Vancouver could be depressing to someone used to fine, cloudless weather, but for those who live in Canada, they probably don't pay as much attention to the weather because its not different to what they're used to.
Personally, I prefer Californian weather, but have enjoyed touring around Vancouver (and living in Whistler) because I have lots of friends in the area and therefore lots to do.

I see that problem a lot. Cold is relative to where you are comparing it to. When we in BC say it's not cold, what we usually mean is it is not freezing cold. Like super cold in the winter, but still cold if you are coming from the tropics. However, I chat with people from Califorina that say it is too hot to work.

And just drove from Seattle and through Vancouver today. It was 15 in Seattle, and closer to 20 in Vancouver.

We also tend to state the average, and prepare for the extremes. Call it global warming, or whatever, but this year's weather has not ever been what it is suppose to be.
I have lived here 67 years and love it get out and enjoy our scenery.. we went to horseshoe Bay today and loved it was a little cool but nice.. get a day pass on transit
I'm a canadian and I don't hate admitting its cold. Its something you do have to get used to. Its been really hot last week and the week before, you caught us on our bad days.
I've been living in Vancouver almost 6 years, and I don't find it depressing at all. This June has been a bit cloudier/rainier/cooler than normal, but every city and region has its periodic abnormalities. Didn't California lose a good deal of its orange crop a few months ago due to an unseasonable bout of frost??

For the record, Canadians don鈥檛 mind admitting when it鈥檚 cold. We actually sort of pride ourselves on how hardy we are. But it鈥檚 all relative 鈥?I don鈥檛 consider Vancouver very cold because I grew up in a place where the average daytime temperature in January was -30C. And besides, it鈥檚 not ALWAYS cold. There are plenty of places that easily reach 30+ in the summer, Vancouver included. And I actually find that too hot. Blech.
vancouver has summers about average 22c but go up to kelowna bc. and it has 38c days.last year in kelowna it got 50c!!!!!
