Where is the best place to exchange US currency with Canadian money?? |
Travel Info I will be leaving for Canada in a week. Would someone please let me know where is the best place to have my money exchanged? Should I do it at the San Francisco/Canada airport, a local bank in USA/Canada, or are there better places to get the money exchanged? Please advise. Thank you!! Travel Tips You will get the best rate of exchange in Canada. We in Canada deal with both US and Canadian currency all the time. Unlike in the US where the bank has to order it in and it takes two to three weeks for it to get there. Just cross the border and go to any Bank they will give you the latest exchange rate. Right now it is running about $1.10 Canadian Loonies to $1.00 Federal Reserve Notes. It varies about 1 to 2 cents day to day. Others Just use an ATM.... just make sure your're on a compatible network - if your bank is on http://www.accelexchange.com/ you won't pay a fee. What I do, is to go to the US Bank - one that has a Foreign Exchange Teller - and get enough Canadian Money to take care of the first couple of days up to the first Business Day. On the first Business Day, I go to the Royal Bank, Scotia Bank, or Bank of Montreal and change enough for the balance of my stay in Canada. You can get the best exchange rate by withdrawing the money (in Canadian funds) from an ATM in Canada. The money will come from your U.S. checking account at the best exchange rate (check with your back about applicable fees). Verify with your U.S. bank that your card is set-up for withdrawals on either the Cyrrus or Plus system. You'll need a four digit numerical pin number. Have a great time! If you just take money out from your bank account at an ATM machine, you'll get the best possible rate (+$1.50 service charge). Otherwise, just go to a bank (CIBC, Royal Bank, TD, Bank of Montreal, VanCity & others) and exchange it at a teller. Another good strategy is to pay by Visa or Debit Card as much as possible. You'll get the best rate and won't pay a service charge. Banks are bad, go and check some exchange store and try to find the best rate , make sure that they will fix it for you. the best way to do it : get some contact numbers and call each on of them and when you find the best rate , ask for them to fix it for you , they will do it for 1 hr ( i guess ) |
