Travel Info I am planning a trip to Seattle, Vancover, and Victoria BC, can I rent a car in Seattle n drive to canada? Travel Tips That depends entirely on you and the car rental company. Some companies will allow you to drive across the border, others won't. A nice trip to take is by ferry from Seattle to Victoria, across to Vancouver by ferry, then drive back home down I5. Others Sorry but canada doesnt have cars yet, maybe in another 30 years....i hope....for now you must resort to using the old fasion way of communiting.. you must harness your dos and sled to the nearest igloo. I fyou are lucky enoughto find a grocery store you will need a second dog sled to bring all the worthless canadian money good luck You'll have to check with the rental agency. Some will not allow you to go cross border, due to insurance reasons. If you sign with a company that allows this, make sure you bring all of your rental forms, as you may be asked for them at the border. Here are afew few sites to visit http://www.gonorthwest.com/visitor/plann... http://www.kanetix.ca/ic_travel_info_tra... http://www.northgardeninn.com/ngi-border... Contrary to what the previous poster has said, Canadian funds are fairly close to at par with USD now. It's a little more expensive for Americans to travel to Canada now than it's been in the past, but cheaper for us to go there. Go figure :) Hope this helps. Yes you can drive it very easily. Just get on Hywy 1-5 North and continue on to the Canadian Border. The hywy turns into Hywy99 at the border. Just keep driving North and you will end up right in Vancouver. It's about 110 miles and takes about 21/2 hours to drive. You would then have to catch the B.C. ferry to Sydney B.C. which is only about a 1/2 drive north of Victoria on Vancouver Island. You would catch the ferry at the Tsawassen Ferry terminal which is just south of Vancouver. It's about a 1 1/2 hour ferry ride. Below is the border crossing website that states what the requirements are for crossing the border with a car rental. It states there's usually no problem but you have to make arrangements with the rental agency and have proper documents with you. Please read for all the information. Hope this helps. Enjoy your trip. http://www.gonorthwest.com/visitor/plann... I lived on Vancouver Island for 12 years and have travelled down into Seattle. I think you will get a better deal renting a car in Seattle. Just check with the rental company that they have no restrictions for you going into BC. When I rent cars in BC, I am allowed to drive into Washington with no problems. yes and it's about a 3 hour drive to Vancouver...there is a ferry from washington state to Victoria..not sure about it but it's probably listed under BC Ferry Corporation..somewhere. |
