However, it is helpful to have a certified copy of your birth certificate in addition to your government-issued ID. Others When i was a child we went to Niagara falls and crossed over into Canada and we never needed a passport Passports won't be necassary to travel to and from Canada until next year I think. They have been talking about it on local news alot in past months. I live in Washington state. It is my understanding that all you need is a valid Id. no just a drivers license for now, although there is planned change coming up that will make a passport needed. President Bush is still blathering about requiring documents for all people crossing the border, but that hasn't gone into effect yet. If you are from Alaska, you are an American citizen. You won't need a passport to get into Canada, just some ID that shows you are American (birth certificate would be good. Drivers licences aren't detailed enough and can be too easily copied). That same ID will get you into Washington State. Have a great trip, and enjoy the Canadian segment! YES, you definitely need a passport. I cruise to Alaska once every month in summer and you need a passport. Post 9/11 much has changed. |
