I have a friend that has a felony. We would like to go to Vancouver, BC together. Is there an unmanned cross? |
Travel Info He is a US citizen. I am a Canadian citizen. Want him to visit a few times, tired of always driving to Seattle. He was stopped at the border before and told he couldn't come into Canada. But there has to be some Ferry, Seaplane, Camp road, or unmanned crossing we can use. He's not a mass murderer, and has served his time in the US. Travel Tips The problem is that he is criminally inadmissible because of his past, however, he does have a way to overcome it. He should goto the Canadian consulate in Seattle and apply for rehabilitation, to show that he leads a stable life and unlilely to be involved in any further criminal activity. It takes about a year, so he should apply ASAP. It will cost anywhere from $200 to $1000 to apply, depending on the seriousness. Here is more info on it: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/faq-i... However he is only eligible to apply if 5 years have passed since: 1. the criminal act was committed; or 2. the end of the sentence imposed for that criiminal act whichever is LATER. There is also deemed rehabilitation and you can find more information about it in the link I gave you earlier. Source(s): I am an immigration lawyer and I have been asked similar kinds of questions in the past. Don't try to sneak him across. Other Travel Tips Well, you'd be breaking the law if you tried to do any of what you're talking about. I'd NOT want to be in your shoes if you were caught. The Canadian police can be pretty uptight and aggressive at the boarder (esp. with non-Canadians in my opinion). I was refused entry once because I didn't have enough cash with me and because I didn't have a firm destination. I just wanted to take an out-of-town friend into Canada (he had never been) and we had a few hours to spare. We ended being separated and iterrogated. Even though our stories were legitimate we were denied entry. The next day we went back with a firm agenda (and through a different crossing) and we were let in - no problem. No. There is no unmaned crossing. He could try running the border but the dogs would bite his but and then he would be charged with a second crime. Your friend can stay in the USA. From a Canadian! Where there is a will, there is always away...Just remember if caught...it's not only him that would be in trouble...You could be charged as well. IF convicted, you could serve jail time.. I brought someone to Canada illegally. He was deported back to the States. (after spending a week in jail then going before a judge) I wasn't charge because I live in a small town, when he was asked how he got into Canada he said he came on his own. When I was asked, I told the truth, I brought him across the border. I was told that they would just take his word for what happened. I was also told what COULD happen to me, if they'd of charge me. Oh and he had a felony as well. If your turned back at the border your name is red-flagged, if caught again many different things can happen. He could spend jail time here, he could get a huge fine. That information I found out from an immigrations officer. It's entirely possible that he can come legally. There are certain circumstances that may allow it. Check out these two sites. They may be able to help determine if he can come here legally and any paperwork he needs to do. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/convi... http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/faq-i... Good luck. |
