I want to move to Canada to live and work. What do I need to make a smooth transition?

Travel Info
I'm from England and I've read up about the subject, but you can never have too much information! I'd like to know what citizens think of Canada and anyone who's been in the same situation and made the move. Preferrably I'd like to work and live there temporarily and apply for the full visas while I'm there....is that possible?

thanks!

try deciding what you want to do...as far as out door activities go canada rocks! winter and summer.
essentials; permit to work...which you need to get before you go.
contact your nearest canadian embassy, you should be able to cownload the forms off the the net. if you're under 30 (i think) you can apply for a one year working holiday visa. if you want to stay longer you'll need to get sponsored so it would pay to work for someone who would be prepared to do this.
i found that canadians love canada. good luck.
Don't move to vancouver. Prairie cities are boomin. Especially in Alberta. That'll help.
it is also very possible to move here and work here. There are alot of jobs. I recommend however, having enough money when you come over to have somewhere to live when you look for a job.
I am sure you can but I am not from there and never been to canada but I am sure it is like the US with there laws and good luck to you and your move
Moved from Southampton in 1981. Been back to visit family but would never go back to the UK. Canada is a great place to live. It doesn't have the dense population that the UK has, therefore, no problem with traffic, parking etc which makes people here a lot more laid-back than in the UK!
Have you done some research as to where you want to go? Which province? All the provinces are quite different - climate, work situation etc so do your homework before you leave.
I think you got it right by coming here temporarily and get a feeling of the place before you make the move.
Will you be looking for a job ? Are you skilled ? or are you retiring here ? The answers to theses questions will help you determine where you should think of going....
Alberta is booming, lots of job but hard to find accommodation.
British Columbia is heaven for retirees. Not too many jobs, but lots of infrastructures for seniors....plus the mountains, sea, golf, mild climate just like UK.
The only advice I can give you is to make sure to have enough money to live on for a while so you can really take the time to look around without having to worry about paying for your next meal.
Welcome to Canada and Good Luck !
