Why is the Vancouver International Airport in B.C. called the YVR? |
Travel Info Sounds more like the name you give a ground transit system Travel Tips All major Canadian airports start with Y....kind of like a postal code. At least Vancouver has VR after which kind of makes sense. Other ones in canada make no sense whatsoever. Like Toronto, code is YYZ Others I know strange isn't it? All airports have strange initials.... you wonder where you are going... Don't know specifically, but here's a link to a general "how airports get their codes" post. http://www.deskdemon.com/pages/uk/travel... The VR obviously stands for Vancouver. I think they ran out of other prefixes and started handing out Y as the initial letters after a while. |
