The enforcement of marijuana laws is perhaps more lax than in the States, but they are still enforceable, especially if you are in possession of a large quantity. Medical marijuana is available on a very limited basis, and even then cops have been known to raid the houses of cancer patients on the slightest suspicion they have improper permits. If you feel the need to try the weed, may I suggest: - 300 block West Hastings, you'll find the city's two premier bookstore and caf茅 here.. they don't sell it but you'd have no problem scoring it (and then smoking it) here. - A caveat do NOT stray east of here on Hastings - nothing but crack zombies, speed freaks and junkies) - Commercial Drive - sort of the "hippie zone" there are a few specialized shops here and lots of smokers - Wreck Beach (in the summer) - the city's world famous nude beach, you can buy pretty much anything here from shrooms to hash, weed, smoothies, cold beers, vegan sandwiches, pot cookies... just remember - BE SAFE! there are a lot of scumbags in this town that might try and take advantage of a pot tourist. smoker.
