Vancouver Neighbourhoods/Artist Buildings? |
Travel Info I'm currently looking to rent at artist/musician oriented buildings because I'm a musician moving to Vancouver in Sept. I'm just wondering if anyone's had any experience with these buildings that you could share? Also they're located in Gastown (2 on water st.), One on Railway st (near dunlevy and alexander) and one's at Powell st and Commercial. does anyone have any info on these areas? Travel Tips be aware (I am assuming that you're a woman) that both the Railway location and the Powell /Commericial location are located in areas that have a good deal of addicts and hookers - and can be pretty desperate and dangerous after dark (this is where some fifty hookers went missing and presumably murdered over the last ten years). That being said - its not flat out dangerous - but you need to have a thick skin and have your wits about you (ie streetsmart).. for that matter Gastown can be pretty dodgey - but there are a lot more residents and gentrification about you may also want to look around the Main St. area (below Broadway) and (if you can find something) in Strathcona/Chinatown both are fairly close to downtown and artsy/musician friendly..
