I'm from the Philippines, and I'm moving to Vancouver, Canada soon. I heard it gets boring there. This true?

Travel Info
What activities do people busy themselves with over there?
Is it easy to for an 18-year old to find a job there?

Travel Tips
Oh my! You will only get bored in Vancouver if you let yourself!
As far as finding a job, as long as you have a work visa or permanent residency documents, and speak some English (the more the better of course), you should have no trouble getting a minimum wage job, and as you improve your skills and get experience, you can get better jobs/wages.

Things to do in Vancouver:
Fantastic Library downtown, excellent for those dreary days.
Stanley Park ... hiking, biking, aquarium, swimming (summer), beaches, and more.
Numerous Museums, Gardens, Art Galleries
Several large malls and a few smaller ones
Shopping in Chinatown, Gastown, Robson Street, Commercial St., and other locations
Many Community Centers with Activities
Outdoor sports, organized and individual, both winter and summer and in between.
Internet Cafe's and Gaming Centers
and several colleges and universities

Others
I believe Bon Jovi recorded "Slippery when Wet" there. I guess they must not think it's boring. On 2nd thought, maybe they got into trouble there because they were bored, sorry
It depends on where you are from. If you are from Manila, it might be boring especially if you are used to the Makati or Pasay areas. If you are from the province it won't be boring.

It will be much colder there.

18.....likely no secondary education....you can get almost any menial labor job as long as you speak english well.
I'm not sure, but I think they shoot Smallville there
with all the development and improvements made in Vancouver and the lower mainland i doubt very much you will be bored easily. i lived there for most of my life and believe me there is always something to do. as for an 18 year old seeking work..it shouldnt be too hard to find a job anywhere in vancouver. In the winter you can go skiing at whistler, summer spend days at stanley park, vancouver aquarium, there are big malls and great shopping, there are tons of great things to see in gastown, there is also playland and Pacific National Exhibition in the summer (great place to find a job that pays above minimum wage) there is a casino or two around (newwestminister has a ship) great golf courses, and the list goes on and on. if you want anymore info email me: whiskeyflirt@yahoo.ca
Yes, it can get very boring and depressing during the wet and cold winter months especially when you haven't seen the sun in weeks. I've been daydreaming at work about spending my holidays on a warm tropical island lately.

Yes, it's easy for an 18 year old to get a job if you are thinking of working in the food industry, like say at a restaurant. Or, if you have some skills like drywalling, flooring, electrical, etc. the building boom is still going strong here in the Lower Mainland.

Cheers,

Petra M, Vancouver
Hi, Idian,
dont worry about it.
Vancouver is a great city, full of life and beauty.
The young people are nice and happy, with all the good things to do and see!
You have to come and know it.
I'm shure you're going to love it.
Good luck!
