Travel Info Where is a good place to go hiking in the lower mainland of BC? Travel Tips For hilly terrain go to Mount Seymour for higher altitude spectacular views. (sometimes the chairlift is open in summer for the initial steep climb) Try to pick a day with wind in the summer heat because of the smog, endless mills, smog from the U.S. and forest fires. Flat ground Burns Bog in east Richmond is nice. UBC trails. (beware of nude beach) Go down to the Iona discharge pipe 4.5 kms out into Georgia Strait walkway is on top of it, open to the public. (Right by the airport you go farther and farther out and look for Killer Whales etc. perfectly flat.) Its a great place to let the ol spirit soar in the ocean breeze. Tons of sea birds you dont see in town. Dont wimp out and make sure you walk right to the end to elevated observatoy. Lots of heavy ship traffic too. Washrooms at the end also. Others Start in Vancouver, than over to the island and back, I also like Olympia State Park WA (short ferry ride) and on up or down the coast.....lots of mountains too if you're heading East....especially Banff and Jasper just wanted to say "Hi" to a fellow BC'er. hey from PG. . Lynn valley. Go to the suspension bridge and once you're over there are miles of trails that are really easy. It isn't crowded either. At any of the ski mountains. Or in Whistler. Go to a bookstore Buy 105 Hikes in the Lower Mainland. Great soft cover book Gives maps and difficulties of hikes. I agree with getting the book 105 hikes - it is awesome and provides the difficulty level and time needed for each hike. Makes me homesick just thinking about it.:0( Have fun, tell somewhere where you are going to hike each time and be safe.:0) |
