What are some things to do in Vancouver, BC?? I'll be going from 4/19-4/22...? |
Travel Info Is it worth it to go board one day at Whistler? Where can i get some sticky icky? Anything I should know? All answer are welcome! Travel Tips For the sticky .. you wanna go to 300 block West Hastings.. that's the locus - a few cafes, bookstore seedshops, are all located on this block.. Casinos - there're a few in town, Edgewater and Chinatown as well as at the horsetrack - ther're also a few large Vegas style casinos in the burbs - with shows, slot machines, etc.. For one day of boarding - I'd consider a more local mountain - Grouse, Seymour and Cypress are all 15 minutes outside of town - Whistler/Blackcomb is a bit more of a trek, at least 3hours drive each way.. The local mountains also offer a terrific view of the city from the slopes (on a clear day) plently of clubbing intown - look for the Georgia Strait - a free local weekly to see whats on - you could also check "clubzone.com" as far as things to do: I've lumped 'em together in areas of close proximity (but in no specific order otherwise) 1. Chinatown / Gastown / Sun yat Sen Gardens- there's a Chinatown night market on Keefer in Chinatown that's neat, Gastown's the "old town" they have a big musuem/ amusement park underground there as well as lots of tourist shops. There are some great boutiques in the area and on Cordova st. 2. North Shore, either Grouse Mtn or Capilano or Lynn Canyon (amazing views, mountains, etc) 3. Granville Island, (public market, artisans) Kits Beach, ("beautiful people") Vancouver Musuem, Maritime Museum (includes an indoor 19th century RCMP ice breaker the St Roche - first to cross the NorthWest Passage) 4. Stanley Park, Aquarium, 2nd / 3rd beach (a massive urban park, great beaches, amazing aquarium w. whales, fish, Amazon jungle) 5. Commercial Drive - hippies, stoners, dykes, Italians, Portugese and yuppies all mixed together.. good shopping and eats 6. English Bay / West end - gaybourhood, lots shopping eating, great sunset spot 7. Downtown / Robson St - Robsons got lots of shopping, and all the chi chi stores (on or around Robson like BetsyJohnson, Bebe, Chanel, Armani, Fila, Levis, Zara, etc etc) - Vancouver Art Gallery 8. UBC / Wreck Beach - UBC is the big university and has a spectacular native art mueum (Museum of Anthrolopolgy) and an impresive Japanese Garden (Nitobe).. for a walk on the wild side hike down the trails to Wreck Beach - which is the nudist beach -you can buy everythign from pre-rolled joints, to Margaritas to fresh food and enjoy an amazing view of the water and islands. There is also a few open air tourist buses that can take you around many of these spots - it mightn't be a bad idea to look into - great way to get your bearings. Source(s): local and smoker. Other Travel Tips I know what you can do at 4:20 on 4/20...Check out the H**H T*MES website...some pretty good info on Vancouver...Enjoy! I would say the top thing to do is take the tram up to the top of Grouse mountain,a little pricy but when you see the view ,it"s worth every penny! However if your on a budget , the Capilano dam is a neat place (it's free) .Lots of good nightclubs , best bet ,pick up one of the local whats happening rags(lots of good music talent here). As to boarding whistler, you won' regret it!!! I live in Victoria,on Vancouver Island ,spent lot's of time in Vancouver over the years. No matter what else you do stop by the Chinese deli 3 doors up from 41st on the west side of Victoria and buy a barbecued duck, the most succulent in North America. p_wabbit has covered it pretty well. To get a great bird's-eye-view of the city start at the "Vancouver Lookout" at Harbour Centre Tower. The whole downtown area is SO exciting!. Have fun! |
