It's one of the most spectacular parts of the world. The weather in spring is variable. You'll likely get the best weather between Anchorage and Fairbanks. Beautiful sunny warm days (and nights!) It can even get hot at that time of year. For the cruise portion ... you'll likely get a mixed bag of sun and rain. And it will be a bit cooler. Take a pair of shorts and Tshirt (even sandals!) for the overland portion. Also take a good eye mask for sleeping. Most people find it hard to adjust to sleeping in the daylight. For the cruise portion.. take a fleece and a good wind resistant jacket. Layering is the best way to deal with variable temperatures. Also take a hat and light gloves. It can get chilly on deck and for excursions. Have fun Others Late May is perfect. The two times I went to Alaska were in late May and early June and it was fantastic both times. Mostly sunny, temps in the low to mid 60's. Not exactly short and t-shirt weather for us southerners, but nice. (Bring shorts anyway, if you're there for more than a week, you'll see.) Warning: The sun almost does not go down during this time of year; if you are there for less than two weeks don't expect to get a whole lot of sleep, your body enjoys that 24 hour sun too much.
