What are the great things about the Belvedere in Vienna? |
Travel Info I know it鈥檚 a famous place but I don鈥檛 know much about it. When I get married, I want to have my honeymoon in Vienna. Can anyone tell me abut the Belvedere? Travel Tips The Palaces and gardens of the Belvedere today now houses an extensive and impressive art gallery. Here you will find neo-classicism; romanticism; Biedermeier; early 20th century; historicism; realism; and impressionism. It used to be the summer residence of Prince Eugene of Savoy, a very successful Austrian military commander. The Belvedere are two palaces, the Upper Belvedere and Lower Belvedere, which are linked by a formal garden with water fountains and statues in the French style by Dominque Girard. It is divided into 3 levels: upper section is Olympus, middle is Parnassus, and the lower section is the Four Elements. By the Lower Belvedere there is the Orangery building, used to be a greenhouse but today houses the Museum of Austrian Medival Art. Cheers, Petra M, Vancouver Source(s): Visited it in May 2006.
