Travel Info Whats it like to be a vietnamese homosexual? Travel Tips It depends on where you live. The North Vietnamese usually don't show public affection, so it's hard to determine if someone is gay unless they outright tell you. The South Vietnamese, especially in Saigon, are more Westernized and public affection is more accepted. Gays seem to be pretty open about their sexuality in public, but they don't draw as much attention as in the U.S. The Vietnamese family unit frowns on homosexuality across the board, but I think the South Vietnamese are more accepting than the North Vietnamese. I know that it is a dishonor to be homosexual, and the Vietnamese families don't take dishonor lightly. I can't speak from personal experience, because I'm not gay and my wife would be upset with me if I was. Source(s): Regular traveler to Vietnam. Other Travel Tips Probably not real bad as a male. My brother in law is a little light in the loafers. It seems much more acceptable than in America (laughing and joking but no violence).
