Halong bay?

We wish to visit hanoi this August. We will be there for 3 nights. Would visiting Halong Bay be the same as visiting Phang Nga (James Bond Islands) in Phuket, Thailand. Would the sights be the same? If so, i rather spend the time in Hanoi visiting local attractions.

I've never been to Ha Long Bay, however, according to what I studied from our history, it's considered as the world's Eighth wonder. It has so many big and small islands. This unique bay is nothing like others. It wouldn't be the same as Phang Nga. The water is calm and clear. I think you would like it. The myth about this bay in line with the myth of our origin "Con R么`ng Ch谩u Ti锚n" and it calls Bay of the Descending Dragon.

Thank you everyone for answering this, but my question remains unanswered. My question was 'will the sights in Halong Bay, Vietnam be the same as PhangNga Island in Thailand'

We were on Halong Bay Cruising last year and it was wonderful. You can snorkle, swim and just relax. The food was fantasic on the boat. A good experience. We are going to be back in Vn in 21 days and we will make another trip to Halong. Cheers.
You could spend 1 night on board of the Junk. It is wonderful the cruise in Halong Bay. Depart from Hanoi early morning, you will arrive at around 12AM. A lot of junk such as Huong Hai, Bai Tho, An Nam, Hai Long... Disembark next morning at 12AM ... and come back to Hanoi in the afternoon.
Don't forget the Water Pupet Show in Hanoi in the evening. Enjoy!

Konphuket - yr photos are nice! Halong Bay is worth visiting! Everyone who went there said that it is beautiful! Just make sure u check out the various cruise companies. I think it will be worth it to take a better cruise with good seafood lunch and stay a night on the cruise. I read that the Dragon Pearl cruise is good and costs USD97. There are cheaper ones but i am not sure how is the food and the condition of the junk.
