Travel Info Are there any other names for the people from Laos besides Laotian? Travel Tips 'Konht Lao'...That means "lao person" in Lao language. My source said that is all that he is aware of. There is a distinction between Hmong, Lao and a Thai person who speaks Lao language -- just saying this as FYI. Hmong are (marginally) similar to Lao but live mostly in the mountainous regions. The tribes or ethnic groups are not confined by state borders. They all have their own language, religion customs etc. Vientien, the capital, is small but all kinds of people, who would define themselves differently, live there, including westerners. They like Chinese Yuan, Thai Bhat and us dollars Asian. |
