Travel Tips i got custom made clothes. all the other trinkets are knock off stuff that you will pay a lot for if you dont speak the language. maybe get some handmade blankets from the natives in sa pa. Others There are 2 things I regretted not getting on my several trips there: 1. Zippo Lighter from US Army from Vietnam War. You see them everywhere - many knock-offs but you can find authentic ones too. 2. An Opium Pipe - again - many knock off but they have many new/old ones. Good conversation piece. I bought some ceramic stuff - but pretty boring. lighters are great but they took mine at the airport.. technically its ok to put "dry lighters" in your bags..but they did take mine!and dont EVER think your getting an authentic one, they were very precious to us during the war and we all took them home ! dont buy any wood stuff, boxes etc. ...they crack and warp and fall apart... i've bought many. the pipes are nice but just for show. cloth goods are nice, bags scarfs etc. embroidered art comes in all prices and qualities.. shop around for a good bargan.. custom made cloths are very reasonable... and snake wine makes a good and unusual souvenier, but pack it carefully. U can get Non La or some souvenir made from Coconut, handidraft Get a bamboo stick from one of those bamboo traps set by the Viet Cong in the jungle. Better off if there is some blood stain on it. silk items are nice...inexpensive too. |
