Would like to vist vietnam. what costs should i expect? |
Travel Info how much does a two hour full body massage cost? how much does street food cost? and what about the costs for a budget guesthouse for two? i have about $50 a day to spend for two people, so I am looking for bargains here. Travel Tips A 30 minute body massage in My Tho (70 Km SE of Saigon) cost 50,000 d last November. That was for a professionally trained massuese at a spa on the main hospital grounds (ie, no hanky panky) Food is very cheap through out Vietnam except in the main cities. It can be pricey in Saigon, Dalat, Nha Trang etc. There are still many good restaurants serving food at resonable prices. Make sure you look at the menu first. Your hotel will probably cost in the 250,000 to 300,000 d/night range in the cities. much less in the country side. This is for a clean, basic room with air conditioning. Not being Vietnamese, you will have to haggle over prices. $50 a day should be sufficient to ensure a fun vacation and allow you to pick up some nice souveniers along the way. Enjoy ! Others it is ok full just not empty Vietnam these days are different with VN before, everything expensive, $50 is OK depend on what you want, like Cadillac or Chevy... for 10 days visit that estimated roughly $5,000 and air fare included. A 2-star or 3-star hotel room for 2 can go as low as $ 30/night. At the Hanoi Backpacker's hostel, a private room can be had for only $ 20 http://www.iyhf.org/dba/hostel080002.en.... Two people can be well fed on street food for $ 10/day. Even in restaurants, two can do it for $ 20/day. So I guess you can do it for $50/day for the two of you. If you are on such a tight budget, you probably shouldn't be thinking of having massages... Not sure where you live; but the plane tickets there can be expensive. I just bought tickets for 3 of us from Detroit for $4400.00. That inclued all fees and our Visa charges. You will have to live pretty fruggel on $50 a day. Street food is very cheap, bio hoi is reasonable and usually a clean hotel room for aound $20+ for two without a view. You can travel on open bus tours, it is bumpy and loud between Hanoi and Saigon; but it is cheap. I'd much rather take the train. I am sure if you Google or Yahoo you will find what you are looking for. As for massages on your budget, I'd forget it or not eat and drink. Have a good trip. cheers I regularly travel to Vietnam, and my wife is currently in living there. Vietnam as a whole is a bargain for traveling, and you can live very well on just $50/day. Hotel: $10-$20 US/night A bowl of pho: $0.50 US A very good meal: $2 US/person A glass of beer at a Bia Hoi: $0.30-$0.50 US. A taxi to go across Hanoi: $2 US A bus ride: $0.30 US I rented a big house in Hanoi on my last trip. It was six bedrooms located in Hoan Kiem District a block from the Red River. It cost $500/month including utilities, which breaks down to about $17/day. There is an excellent spa at the National University of Acupuncture. Spa, massage and an excellent lunch cost $16 US. All that in mind, you can easily travel Vietnam on $50 and probably have some extra dollars left over. Make sure you read Ong Jon's answer for some excellent travel tips, especially if you're considering going to Nha Tran. Have fun and Happy Tet! Regular traveler to Vietnam. Wife is currently living in Saigon. |
