They didn't fight for anyone's freedom. They gave their lives for a country they loved, for absolutely no reason.

The American government should take better care of them, more money needs to be given to veteran's services, because the American government screwed them over and put them in the line of fire for stupid political reasons which never made sense.

The Vietnam war is one of the biggest, most fruitless wastes of life I can think of, but the vets need respect and understanding from the American people. It's not their fault.

On the other hand, the Vietnam War was also a conflict with incredibly high occurances of war crimes. I think that as Americans we need to recognize international courts, even if that means our vets are prosecuted for war crimes, to give validity to our own human rights endeavours. Our not participting in international military tribunals is embarrasing and hypocritical, and our vets need to be held just as accountable as the people in Cambodia or Africa who perpetrated genocied in the names of their respective governments.

So our vets need respect and care, but they also need to be treated the way we demand other vets around the world are. With justice. Justice for innocent Vietnamese people, and justice for their own suffering from their own government.

I agree, but all of our service men and women need to be respected for the couragous job they did or are doing.
They should be taken better care of than they are. ALL vets should. But they are'nt. And Vietnam had nothing to do with our freedom. We butted in their civil war. We lost, then we cut and ran...
For who's freedom? Are you Vietnamese? They were fighting to try to prevent a popular regime (that the US govt didn't like) from taking over.

I feel sorry for the vets, they had no choice - but they certainly weren't fighting for anyone's freedom. Just like now in Iraq they are fighting for Bush cronie's oil interests, period.
From your question I take it you are VIETNAMESE as a vet that served in VIETNAM 66 thru 69 we didn't ask for anything but if you really feel that way a simple THANK YOU is more than enough
Yes the respect for veterans is very important, but as far as freedom was concern well American always had freedom, just as much as Australian,s have freedom to although we went to Vietnam to server our tour of duty. But for oil? What oil there ain't no oil in Vietnam.
