When looking at star ratings you have to ask who sets the standard and who does the checking. Furthermore you say "more like 2" but how do you know that your 2 star is the same as mine. "Buyer beware" as they say. Others To some people 2 star hotels are fab (my ex for example) - no wonder we split up! The Carribean is more laid back and slow paced than the mainland (i know this becuz i live in the USVI). So some place that may be fabulous down here may be regular to mainlanders. But trust that when u visit the caribbean the last place u will spend most of ur time is in ur hotel room (unless ur boring). But every island has its own main attraction. The hotel association rates these hotels based on the accommodations,amenities, facilities and services of the hotel. How the hotels handles these different aspects is another story. The management and staff will make the hotel top of the list or the bottom of the list. That's my take on hotel ratings. s My story was the opposite. I thought it would be maybe a 3 1/2 star, and it turned out to be a 5 star, and I loved it. have stayed at hotels in USVI and the BVI - service is a little "iffy" to call it a 4-5* - but the beaches and accomodations in resort hotels are well kept up. Try tripadvisor. com for info. on what people think of different resorts on the island. The Hyatts, Wyndhams, Rosewoods, Westin, all very nice. Check beach area...nice usually but access at Wyndham is best done by shuttle on St.Thomas - many steps getting to the beach which is clean and well maintained but shuttle gets you to the pool and it is easier walk to the beach area. |
